javascripts: Bucharest, Romania, 2009. Communist-era apartments in the area that Ceausescu leveled in the 1980s to make way for The Palace of Parliament, the second largest building in the world. The dictator destroyed a fifth of historic Bucharest and bulldozed churches and thousands of 'Little Paris' style villas to do so. Wide boulevards modeled after North Korea replaced narrow streets and Communist Blocs were erected in place of beautiful old buildings.
