bucharest-in-progress: Bucharest, Romania, 2009. Communist bloc apartment buildings built in the late 1980s in the area of south central Bucharest that was once part of the historic center, known as 'Little Paris' between the World Wars, because of its beautiful villas and architecture. Ceausescu leveled 1/5th of the center area to make way for the Palace of Parliament, the second largest building in the world. Wide boulevards modeled after North Korea replaced narrow streets and Communist Blocs were erected in place of beautiful old buildings.
